Why esports should be considered a sport:

I have watched sports for as long as I can remember. My father is very interested in sports, therefore, I watched football, hockey, f1 and handball from a young age. I have been a fan of esports since season 4 of League of legends. Watching my favourite team SKT go up against the world and win has always been a pleasure. For me, the excitement is high when I watch my favourite team play in front of the crowd no matter what I watch, which is why I have never seen any distinction between these sports.

The definition of sport according to the Cambridge dictionary: is a game, competition, or activity needing physical effort and skill that is played or done according to rules, for enjoyment and/or as a job. By this definition, esports is a sport. While you can argue about the level of physical effort needed it definitely still exists and it requires skill. Only people who have never played one of these games would say they don’t.

If you compare esports to the other sports I listed they are very similar. They all require extreme devotion to the game and they all compete in front of massive crowds where the pressure to perform is maximal. Esports players all practise for long periods each day and they all need extreme devotion to reach the pinnacle of the game.

If you still consider esports a non-sport. That is ok you are entitled to your opinion, however, Esports will only grow larger from here and it is already one of the largest events despite how young the sport is. It is only a matter of time before esports will be in the Olympics and be the most viewed sport at the event.
